If you stroll through the bustling Pettah district, right next to the main market, take a moment to admire the Mercantile Clock. This hanging clock was installed in 1953. What makes it unique is that it still runs, not on batteries or electricity, but thanks to an original mechanical device, carefully maintained by local watchmakers. This small detail, often overlooked by visitors, is a true hidden gem in the heart of Colombo’s urban energy.

What SEASON to go to Colombo?

The best time to visit Colombo is from December to April, during the dry season. The climate is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 27 to 32°C. The mostly clear skies are perfect for wandering through markets or exploring the city’s historic neighborhoods. It is also the most comfortable season for discovering the city on foot or by tuk-tuk.

From May to November, the rainy season brings regular showers, especially in the late afternoon, along with higher humidity. Despite this, Colombo remains lively. The rain is often short-lived and doesn’t prevent visitors from enjoying the capital’s cultural and culinary treasures, with a calmer and less touristy atmosphere.
