Ella
Perched in mist-covered mountains, Ella is a small region with peaceful charm, known for its tea plantations and waterfalls. With its spectacular panoramas, cool climate, and accessible hiking trails, it attracts travelers seeking outdoor adventures in nature. Enjoy the ascent to Little Adam’s Peak and scenic walks through tea fields.
Ella at a glance
Ella is one of those stops that I recommend with eyes closed. I truly love this region, nestled in the mountains of Sri Lanka, for its rolling landscapes, between tea plantations, waterfalls, and small hilltop villages. You often arrive here after a magnificent train journey through the wild countryside.
What I enjoy most are the morning walks, when mist still blankets the hills. The trail to the summit of Ella Rock or Little Adam’s Peak is worth every step for the view at the top. For families or contemplative travelers, it is a real favorite.
And after the hike? You sit down in a little café, enjoy a local dish or a good tea, and watch the train pass over the Nine Arches Bridge. It is simple, but very beautiful.

WHAT TO SEE IN ELLA

What SEASON to go to Ella?
The best time to visit Ella is from December to March, during the dry season. The climate is pleasant, with temperatures between 20 and 28°C during the day, cool mornings, and often clear skies. It is the ideal time for hiking to Little Adam’s Peak, watching the sunrise from Ella Rock, or walking through tea plantations in comfortable conditions.
From April to September, the weather remains mild but showers become more frequent, especially in the late afternoon. The landscapes then take on even more intense tones, with misty tea fields and humid forests creating a mysterious and soothing atmosphere. The rainy season, from May to August, may make some trails muddier, but it offers a quieter and more intimate experience, with fewer tourists and nature more alive than ever.
