Phnom Penh

Capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh is a rapidly growing city where cultural renewal and a laid-back lifestyle along the Mekong meet. Formerly known as the "Pearl of Asia," it captivates with its contrasting atmosphere. Here, golden pagodas stand alongside colonial buildings, and traditional markets pulse to the rhythm of tuk-tuks. Phnom Penh is also a place of remembrance, deeply marked by history, which is discovered through its emblematic sites.

Phnom Penh is often seen as a simple stopover between two destinations, but it is a capital that deserves much more than a quick visit. Behind its vibrant energy lie places of great historical and human significance, such as the Tuol Sleng Museum, which reminds visitors of the country’s recent past.

My advice: start your day early to avoid the heat, visit the Royal Palace at opening time, then get lost in the alleys around the Russian Market for an authentic immersion. And for the more curious, continue on to the Bassac Lane district, a small maze of intimate bars and artists’ studios, ideal for sensing the city’s cultural revival.
