Ella at a glance
Ella is one of those stops that I recommend with eyes closed. I truly love this region, nestled in the mountains of Sri Lanka, for its rolling landscapes, between tea plantations, waterfalls, and small hilltop villages. You often arrive here after a magnificent train journey through the wild countryside.
What I enjoy most are the morning walks, when mist still blankets the hills. The trail to the summit of Ella Rock or Little Adam’s Peak is worth every step for the view at the top. For families or contemplative travelers, it is a real favorite.
And after the hike? You sit down in a little café, enjoy a local dish or a good tea, and watch the train pass over the Nine Arches Bridge. It is simple, but very beautiful.
