Rize

Rize is the green heart of Turkey’s eastern Black Sea coast, a spectacular region where tea plantations cover the hills all the way up to the misty peaks of the Kaçkar Mountains. Between valleys, rivers, high plateaus, and villages suspended in the clouds, Rize offers a unique immersion into an authentic side of Turkey. Here, nature is everywhere, traditions remain deeply rooted, and every mountain road reveals breathtaking panoramas.

Rize at a glance

Rize is one of those places that leaves a lasting impression. What I loved most was this constant feeling of being surrounded by nature: mountains covered with tea plantations, valleys drowned in mist, powerful rivers, and small villages lost among the clouds. Everything here feels more authentic. The most beautiful moments in Rize are not necessarily found at the famous sites, but often around a bend in a mountain road or over a glass of tea shared with locals.

I would recommend every traveler passing through the region to experience these places:

  • taking the road to the yaylas to discover plateaus suspended above the clouds,
  • relaxing in the hot springs of Ayder after a day of hiking,
  • exploring the Kaçkar valleys and spending the night in a traditional wooden house,
  • stopping at a tea plantation to admire the lush green hills of the Black Sea region.

What SEASON to go to Rize?

Rize has a humid and lush climate typical of the Black Sea region, with frequent rainfall throughout the year. Spring (May to June) and summer (July to September) are the best periods to discover the region: the mountains and tea plantations become especially green and vibrant, while temperatures remain pleasant even at higher elevations. Autumn also brings magnificent colors to the valleys and high plateaus. Whatever the season, Rize captivates visitors with its spectacular landscapes, perched villages, and peaceful atmosphere in the heart of the Black Sea mountains.
